School Closure Petition
Since last week’s open houses, a parent from Bridge Elementary, Kim Nowitsky, has been circulating a petition against ALL the Richmond school closures. The wording of the petition is as follows:
“To the Honourable the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, in Legislature Assembled and Ministry of Education:
The petition of the undersigned, Residents in School District 38, of the City of Richmond, BC, state that: we object to the proposed elementary school closures in our city.
Your petitioners respectfully request that the Honourable House or Premier of BC save our communities by leaving our schools open.”
A number of Richmond elementary schools are participating including Bridge, Whiteside, Diefenbaker, Lee, Woodward, McNeeley and Debeck. The Lee copy of the petition is posted on the PAC bulletin board. If you wish to sign, please do so on the PAC bulletin board. Please do not remove this copy. To be valid, the petition must have original signatures with no whiteout or erasing. Additional pages will be supplied if required. Any resident of Richmond can sign.
Thank you Ms. Nowitsky for spearheading this campaign to save all our schools.
**UPDATED** There is a rally organized by Richmond Schools Stand United opposing the potential closure of all Richmond schools. The rally will be held on Saturday June 18 at 11:00 am at MLA John Yap Constituency Office, 4011 Bayview St, Steveston.
