Admin Report (Alfred)
An email will go out tomorrow about Term 2 Progress Reports. While issues have decreased, anyone experiencing difficulties logging in is encouraged to contact the school or use the support contact provided on the email.
The school is still undergoing a painting project—the first full interior repaint in approximately 20 years. All classrooms are expected to be completed by the end of the school year. Hallways and common areas will be completed in the following school year. During painting, classes have been working out of the library to minimize disruption.
Admin are currently working on updating the Map of Richmond display outside the office with the help of a parent.
Outdoor education camp has been introduced to Grade 5 and 6 students, who will attend in October when they are in Grades 6 and 7. Families experiencing financial barriers are encouraged to contact Alfred, as the goal is for all students to have the opportunity to participate. Current costs are approximately $375 per student (including the ferry and two nights at the camp), with the school continuing to subsidize significantly. Some schools have shifted their outdoor education camp programs (ie. opting for a day trip vs. overnight). Lee will continue to have discussions regarding the long-term sustainability of overnight camp, but for now, the plan is to continue as we have with camps taking place every other year.
Track Meet is scheduled for May 20, 2026. The district and Richmond Elementary Athletic Association have revised the format to better align with curriculum goals, emphasizing equity, skill development, and “challenge by choice.” This year, students will rotate through stations with an opportunity to try every event. They will also be choosing how to participate (recreational or competitive). The biggest challenge with this new format will be logistical - all students will begin at 8:45 a.m, but school buses are not available to meet that timeline. Hence, all five schools in our zone will rely heavily on parent drivers. With new district requirements, all volunteer drivers must complete a criminal record check.
Chair Report (KC)
Constitution / Bylaws - A vote was held to adopt the updated language for the Secretary and Communications Coordinator role descriptions. Quorum was met, with five members in favour.
Fruit and milk update - April delivery (honeydew) is expected this week, with pineapple scheduled for May and grapes (ETA June 8) for June. Grapes may be used for Sports Day, potentially supplemented with additional fruit if a discount can be secured. CC will approach Kin’s Farm Market head office regarding pricing.
Gr. 7 Fundraising update - Approximately $900 has been raised to date, with a few remaining fundraisers planned before the end of the school year. Last year’s end-of-year celebrations cost approximately $800; additional funds may help offset the costs for yearbooks and/or camp expenses.
Gr. 7 Graduation - CC and her husband have generously volunteered to provide one 4x6 instant print photo per family at graduation. Alfred will coordinate logistics with CC.
Treasurer’s Report (KC on behalf of AC)
General and Gaming account balances provided.
Gaming grant application period is now open; AC to submit our application shortly.
As the school has recently purchased new sports equipment, PAC funds previously allocated for this purpose will be held for now.
Fundraising Coordinators’ Report (KB)
Photo Day sign-ups are significantly lower than last year at only 6 of 24 slots filled (we had 21 last year). KB will make a final push to families, encouraging them to share the opportunity with friends and family, or consider it for Mother’s Day gifts.
A new fundraising opportunity with the Vancouver Canadians is being explored; additional details to come.
Inquiry raised regarding off-site fundraising (e.g., doughnut sales outside local businesses). The PAC has not tried off site sales but we have sold Krispy Kreme doughnuts at the school before so there is potential to explore this again. KB did reach out to Lee’s Doughnuts, but the profit margins were very low.
Potential upcoming initiatives include a Freezie sale (May 8) and simple snack sales (e.g. popcorn or Freezies) at the Talent Show.
Raffle fundraising was discussed; this would require a gaming license and may be considered for a future event (e.g., Christmas Concert).
RDPA Update (DL) The Superintendent presented a new district strategic plan outlining priorities for the next five years; materials will be available online.
A presentation by Braunwyn Thompson was also shared.
The next RDPA meeting is the RDPA AGM on May 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the School Board Office. RG will serve as our primary representative, with KB as a backup. KC will complete required signatures and submit the paperwork authorizing RG to vote on Lee PAC’s behalf.
Hot lunch update (KC on behalf of TS)
Planning is already underway to review and confirm vendors for the upcoming school year.
The Feeding Futures program launched successfully, with meals delivered directly to classrooms and overage portions available. Note that families can select alternate portion sizes by choosing “show all options” when ordering on Munch a Lunch.
Roundtable Discussion
The post-spring break “Snack Attack” initiative was well received; Alfred shared the staff’s appreciation. Thank you to all families who contributed!
Movie Night: Pre-sale numbers are lower than expected; additional attendance is anticipated through door sales. Popcorn and some candy bags will be available for cash sale.
Prowl-a-Thon: Additional prizes are needed; the donation request timeline will be extended. Information will be distributed to parents in early May, ideally including visuals of the proposed bike racks so parents can see what the pledge proceeds will be supporting. These visuals and fundraising information will also be displayed on a board set up at the event. AC to provide mock-ups. The class costume contest will return; Alfred will coordinate with staff and KB will prepare supporting communications.
AGM: Scheduled for June; nominations are open! Strategies to increase attendance were discussed, including incentives (e.g., pizza at the meeting, or hot lunch credits) and promotional efforts (information table and hand outs) at Prowl-a-Thon and Sports Day. Additional communication outlining Executive roles will be prepared by AC and/or KB.
Welcome Back BBQ: The PAC is revisiting the date, time, and format of a Welcome Back event in light of changes to the school’s Meet the Teacher event, which will be held as an open house from 2:45–3:45 p.m. on Monday, September 14. If the PAC chooses to align the event with this timing, pre-ordering food through Munch a Lunch may not be feasible, as this would just be the 5th day of school and vendors typically require several days’ notice for orders. In this case, food options that do not require pre-ordering—such as Kona Ice or Tin Lizzy—may be more suitable. The earlier date and time may also impact the availability of community partners, which will need to be considered in planning. A potential vendor if we go the pre-ordering route is Alohaa Hotdogs. No minimum spend, and the PAC receives 10% back from sales.
Returnable Containers: Students will be reminded of proper bin usage; Alfred will address this at an upcoming assembly.
Scooter and Bike Safety: Communication has been shared with students and families regarding safe practices. Please advise Alfred if unsafe practices continue.
Next Meeting Next PAC Meeting: May 13, 2026 SD will be away; GA will take minutes. Meeting adjourned at 7:15 PM
