LRFP: Potential Lee School Closure

As a follow-up to our earlier message last week regarding the Potential School Closure Notice (see attachment below), this post has been prepared to provide information to parents regarding the impact of the Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP) and the potential closure of Walter Lee Elementary School.   For more information regarding the Long Range Facilities Plan, please refer to the Richmond School District website: https://letstalksd38.ca/our-schools-our-students-our-future . We had an excellent turnout last night (Monday May 16) at our May PAC meeting where our school's Consultation Committee presented an overview of the school closure process and the potential impact on Lee school.  An e-copy of handouts distributed at the meeting are attached below:  Walter Lee Potential Closure Package - May 2016 PAC Meeting and Attachments (2 attachments).  The Lee PAC Meeting Minutes May 2016 (to be adopted at the next PAC meeting) are also attached below. This week, please try to attend at least one of the Long Range Facilities Plan Open Houses scheduled as follows: Tuesday May 17 @ Steveston/London Secondary School, 6:30 to 8:30 pm Wednesday May 18 @ Palmer Secondary School, 6:30 to 8:30 pm Thursday May 19 @ Boyd Secondary School, 6:30 to 8:30 pm We are asking for everyone to attend the Palmer Secondary Open House on Wednesday May 18 to present a unified voice for our school.  Of course, if this is not convenient for you, please try to attend any session.  It is vital for us to be seen and heard in this process.  Ideally, we will have a steady procession of Walter Lee supporters throughout the evening.  Action Items for Parents:​  Be Seen – Make sure you attend at least one of the open houses.  Sign in at the front and indicate you are from Walter Lee.Be Heard – Ask your questions and become more informed.  If you have any questions, concerns, or comments regarding the LRFP process, please contact any of the following individuals at the school district and/or government: Sherry Elwood, CEO & Superintendent of Schools – selwood@sd38.bc.ca Mark De Mello, Secretary-Treasurer – mdemello@sd38.bc.ca Alice Wong, School Trustee - alwong@sd38.bc.ca Linda Reid, MLA - linda.reid.MLA@leg.bc.ca or 604-775-0891 (Questions/concerns can be answered and/or forwarded to the Minister of Education) Additional contact information for school trustees and other individuals involved with the LRFP process can be found on the district website: https://letstalksd38.ca/our-schools-our-students-our-future (scroll to the bottom of page).  We request that parents please copy us at Lee (bob_mann@shaw.ca) on any messages or communications you may have with representatives of the school district, trustees, government, etc., so that we may be aware of what is happening as it pertains to Walter Lee.
