Admin Report (Alfred)
- Great turnout for Winter Concert
- Food Bank donation drive was a big success. Special shout out Mr. Lew’s class who raised over $1000!
- Basketball season has started. Lee will be attending the end of season tournaments at our feeder schools (McRoberts and McNair) per usual, but the district has changed them to be more of a jamboree style vs. competitive tournament
- Preparation for transition to Grade 8 - high school student visits took place and Open Houses (parent information nights) are coming up. Parents can ask Mr. Chan if they have any questions.
- Feedback from primary teachers noted that multiple fundraising and donation initiatives running concurrently in December (e.g., candy cane sale, food bank donations, FundScrip) resulted in an influx of cash coming to the school, which at times created confusion about its intended purpose. To mitigate this in future years, Admin and PAC will explore providing a standardized slip for parents to submit with cash payments indicating what the funds are for.
- The District is proceeding with a pilot of the Feeding Futures lunch program. The program aims to provide one to two hot lunches per month for all students, with an option for families to opt out. Multiple vendors will be involved, and Munch-A-Lunch will likely be used to manage menu selections and opt-outs. More details will be shared as it becomes available. Feedback from the PAC is to request that the program be scheduled on Thursdays, during weeks when the PAC is not running hot lunch.
- Health Science programming - upon further discussion with the staff, the following was decided:
- primary students will receive school district based learning via Lee teachers. All Lee primary teachers have received training on teaching the Strong Bodies curriculum.
- Staff would like to pilot the Options for Sexual Health program for intermediate students this year. While the cost of Options is significantly higher than Saleema Noon ($3,115 compared to $1,300), the program provides two sessions per class over two days. Staff noted that, in past years, the amount of content delivered in a single Saleema Noon session felt overwhelming for some students. Piloting Options will allow staff to compare both programs and make an informed decision for future years. Staff have requested that PAC contribute $1,300 (consistent with last year’s contribution) toward the cost of the Options program, with the remaining amount covered by the school. Vote: All in favour.
Chair Report (KC)
- Constitution & Bylaws - An amendment was proposed to expand on the Secretary/ Communication Coordinator roles, however, it was decided that the 2 roles should be kept separate. KC to propose a revised amendment at the next meeting.
- Hot lunch update - the debut of Just Poke went well and received positive feedback from several families. Premier Central Kitchen is scheduled to debut soon. If successful, PAC will likely continue with these vendors and keep Nando’s out of the rotation for the time being.
- Fruit and milk update - no update at this time.
- Gr. 7 Fundraising Update - The Popcorn and Pringles sale was successful today. A hot chocolate sale is planned for February. KC will contact Starbucks regarding the provision of hot water.
- Sports equipment - PAC had budgeted funds for new sports equipment; however, Admin has already purchased equipment for spring use. Additional purchases will be deferred for now.
Treasurer’s Report (AC)
- General account and Gaming account balances provided to members.
- Purdy’s cheque has been deposited.
- FundScrip cheque is still outstanding.
- As per the approved budget, PAC will contribute $2,000 toward Rhythm Resource programming in March; Admin will share the invoice.
- Treasurer Update - AC has agreed to serve as Acting Treasurer until a permanent replacement is found.
RDPA Update (DL)
- The January RDPA meeting included a presentation on district program options (e.g., French Immersion, IB, career programs), which are also outlined on the RDPA website. DL will share the link in the PAC WhatsApp chat for parents interested in learning more.
- RDPA has sent an advocacy letter to the District requesting the establishment of a PAC to support drug-prevention education programming.
- RDPA will share additional community resources for PACs to distribute to families.
- The District has allocated $5.5 million for renovations to the new City Centre school. Catchment boundaries for the school were also shared this month.
- Parents from McMath, Homma, and Anderson schools shared information about a new Magnet fundraising option. Further details can be obtained if KB and PC are interested.
- Details on the Feeding Futures program have not yet been shared. In the meantime, PAC may reach out to the PACs at Thomas Kidd and Mitchell Elementary, which piloted the program in November and December.
Fundraising Coordinators’ Report (KB)
- Purdy’s fundraiser revenue total: $1,301.34 - highest ever for Purdy’s!
- FundScrip fundraiser revenue total: $247.97 - may not be worth running again.
- PC is exploring Bubble Tea and other options for Treat Sales; dates and details to follow.
- Above & Beyond family photo shoot fundraiser dates are confirmed for May 2–3, 2027 at Minoru (same as last year). Promotion and sign-up will begin after Spring Break.
- Mabel’s Labels and Return It fundraisers are ongoing; Pedalheads fundraising is active through the end of June.
- PAC may revisit a floral baskets/bouquets fundraiser for May; KB will look into options.
Roundtable Discussion
- A reminder for Executives to vet all WhatsApp and Facebook join requests before approving new members (e.g., request student initials and division; KC can assist with verification).
- Movie Night is confirmed for Friday, April 24, 2026 (doors open at 6:00 pm; movie starts at 6:30 pm). A new idea this year is to allow students to vote on the movie, with three options provided in class. KC will confirm the licensing cost and add it to the next meeting agenda for approval. KB will submit a request to Rentals, as this is an after-school event.
- Prowlathon date confirmed for Friday, May 22, 2026.
- Bike Rack(s): After reviewing various options and pricing, the preferred option is the “squiggly” bike rack from Barco, which accommodates 11 bikes at a cost of $755. AC will prepare a visual showing potential locations for the next meeting. Pending Executive approval, the spending will be brought forward for a vote. Once approved, Admin can submit a work order to the District, including PAC’s recommended location, to confirm installation requirements and costs (labour and possible base).
- Rehana Zimmerman will contact Scholastic regarding potential Book Fair dates in June and may request PAC support. More details to follow.
