Outdoor Education

Our school has a tradition of involving Grade 6 and 7 students in an outdoor education program at the end of the school year as a positive and satisfying way to celebrate our year together.  This experience is offered every second year so that all Grade 6 and 7 students will have an opportunity to participate.

This year we will be attending Camp Elphinstone, which is located on the Sunshine Coast close to Langdale.  We will be traveling by school bus and BC Ferries to and from the camp.  The bus will leave the school early morning on Wednesday, May 11 and we will be back at the school on Friday, May 13 in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, Nov. 18, all parents of Gr. 6 & 7 students were invited to come to an information meeting at school. At this meeting, we gave out a package of information, including a payment fee schedule. Please see the attached notice titled, "Outdoor Ed Parent Letter" for more details about the payment schedule. If you need another copy of any of the forms that have been sent home, please see the attachements below.

Students who have “Get Wet” certification from Richmond Parks and Recreation will be allowed to participate in small craft/water activities such as canoeing and kayaking as part of the activity rotations. We strongly encourage all students to register for “Get Wet” certification so that they can take part in all of the outdoor education activities. Please see the attached notice, "Get Wet Notice" for more information.

Please feel free to log onto http://www.vanymca.org/camps/outdooreducation.html for more information about the camp itself.

We will continue to post notices and forms for Outdoor Ed camp on this page as the year progresses. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions about the Outdoor Education experience.
