Our journey continues

This year, Walter Lee staff continue to explore ways to infuse math learning in cross-curricular ways.  The Richmond school district teacher consultant in numeracy, Janice Novakowski have spend time with our staff to continue to inspire us to think mathematically.

Learning math is hard, how do we help foster numeracy in our students and continue to remember that a growth mindset is key to challenging ourselves to see math in different ways.

Some questions guiding our professional development for this school year:

  1. continue to foster numerate students
  2. ways that we can make our thinking and learning visible through use of the classroom digital portfolios
  3. growth mindset at the heart of our learning
Part of being numerate is developing the ability to use more than the standard and traditional methods to represent learning. Students here are using other units to represent measurment.
